Should Canadians Follow American Politics?

If you do not follow American politics, reading this blog will be a waste of your time.  However, for the life of me, I do not understand why virtually every Canadian would not closely follow what is going on politically in the United States. Arguably the US is the most dominate country in the world, a designation it has held virtually since the end of the first World War. Commencing early in the 20th century and continuing to the present time, it has been, indisputably, the world’s powerhouse nation.

Keeping a close eye on American politics, as I do, and watching and listening to their so-called leaders in Congress, I cannot help but wonder how their status in the world has endured.  With few exceptions, the quality of leadership in the United States can best be described as dismal.  By embracing a free enterprise economy, the country has prospered and dominated world affairs in spite of its leadership.

By way of full disclosure, were I an American, I would be a supporter of the Republican Party and I would have voted for Donald Trump.  Of those on the political stage in the United States, I like the personalities and leadership style of prominent Republican leaders. However, with one or two exceptions, I find members of the Democratic Party difficult to like.  It is also my observation that Democrats are disingenuous, along with too many of their supporters and their media cheerleaders.

As I proceed with this blog, I will mention the names of those involved in United States politics who I believe are dangerous to the wellbeing of those they govern. Too many politicians from both parties, but particularly the Democratic Party, seem self-absorbed, and many have become extremely rich on the backs of the American people while purporting to work for the public good.

Did you know, for example, that only recently members of Congress were prohibited from trading securities based on insider information they garnered through their roles as legislators?  Before that time—and I am talking only a few years ago—Members of Congress could easily determine how pending legislation would impact, either positively or negatively, a publicly traded company or companies. They could either buy the stock if the legislation was positive, or sell a stock short if the legislation would negatively impact a public company.  This was an outrageous and unfair form of legalized cheating and these legislators feathered their own nests and did so within the law of the day.   Members of both parties participated in the scam.

The moral of the story is that, generally speaking, we are not dealing with honourable people who saw the lack of a prohibition on insider trading as being wrong and refrained from playing that game. You and I would perceive their actions as improper, but too many did not share that view and proceeded to enrich themselves, their families and friends with scandalous impunity.

So from that background, let’s take a look at some of the more prominent, present-day politicians in the United States.

Adam Schiff is a congressman from Burbank, California and Chairman of the House of Representatives Intelligence Committee.  President Trump’s name for him is “pencil neck,” a reference to his physique.  Schiff is a very difficult man to like.  During the Mueller investigation, he stated publicly, many times, that he had seen evidence to completely support the allegation that President Trump colluded with the Russians to affect the outcome of the 2016 Presidential election.  Of course, no such evidence existed and therefore could not have been seen by Schiff.  The fact that he was Chairman of the House Intelligence Committee gave credence to his false allegations, and as noted, his allegations were all bare-faced lies. An honourable man would have resigned in shame when the Mueller Report could not find the evidence Schiff stated existed and vindicated the President.  Not Schiff.  This fellow put “slime” in the words “Slime Ball.”  Yet, people actually vote for disingenuous creeps like this guy. The next time someone brags about having a degree from Harvard, think Adam Schiff.

Maxine Watters is a Congresswoman from a district in Los Angles. She came to prominence during the Rodney King episode and has ridden the government gravy train ever since.  She and her husband have become extremely wealthy “serving the people.”  Her district is poor, yet Maxine enjoys the good life in spades.

Ms. Watters is, in a word, a fool.  Notwithstanding, she is the Chairwoman of the House Financial Services Committee.  Recently, her committee held hearings, before which the CEOs of major US banks testified.  Dopy Maxine began berating the witnesses over student loans: what their banks were doing was most harmful to university students.  Maxine continued that aggressive line of questioning, which played to the cameras, until one of the CEOs explained to this moron that they were no longer involved with student loans and hadn’t been involved with them for years.

Maxine Watters is the poster child for inept, really stupid politicians: those who get elected over and over again by an electorate who, collectively, must have IQs 30 points below the national average.

Senator Mazie Hirono from Hawaii is dim-witted, as evidenced by her performance during the Kavanaugh hearings. Most recently, her questioning of Attorney General William Barr is conclusive evidence that this incredibly backward individual just has to be an embarrassment, not only to the State of Hawaii, but the entire legislative branch of the United States government.  Really, this lady is the poster child for the ignorant politician.

Speaker of the House of Representatives, Nancy Pelosi, is also a California Democrat who just has to be smarter than she looks and sounds.  This 79-year-old woman is the poster child for a liberal democrat ideologue. Nancy is a political schemer and money raiser, and not an effective legislator. I predict she will be sent out to pasture following the 2020 elections.  Until that time, the people of the United States will have to endure Ms. Pelosi and the rabid left lib members of her caucus.

You know, it is sad to see some flake like Nancy Pelosi following in the footsteps of past truly outstanding Speakers of the House of Representatives.

Chuck Schumer is the minority leader in the Senate.  He, like Ms. Pelosi, opposes everything and anything proposed by Republican legislators.  He is bound and determined to thwart any meaningful proposals advanced by the other side.  I must say that each time I see Chuck on television, I have this overpowering urge to have a shower.  This guy is the personification of the creepy politician.

Of course, there are many others.  Nadler, Warren, Harris, Swalwell, Booker, O’Rourke and most of the other egomaniacs seeking the Democratic Party nomination to run for President against Donald Trump.  It never ceases to amaze me how such people actually think they are qualified contenders for the United States presidency.  The existence of such an unsupportable, out-of-control ego is an absolute mystery to me. The pathetic accumulation of Democratic presidential wannabes is so God-awful that the re-election of President Trump is virtually assured.  And for the benefit of the Western world—and particularly the wellbeing of the United States—that is, in my opinion, a very good thing.

The 2020 election will be decided by the independent voters.  The Republican base will vote for President Trump.  The hard-core Democrat voters— those who love Rachael Maddow, CNN, and MSNBC and who believe everything they hear from Cooper, Lemon, Cuomo, and similar rabid Trump haters on other networks—will vote for the Democrat nominee regardless of how unqualified that person might be. Think Obama.

The independents and some so-called “red dog” Democrats will, as noted above, swing the election in President Trump’s favour. Barring some unforeseen event, I predict his party will retake the House of Representatives and increase its majority in the Senate.  The result will be that President Trump’s agenda will pass unobstructed by the left-wing socialist crazies. Trump’s policies will benefit the citizens of the United States for at least the following 25 years or until the Democrats regain power and re-establish the Obama-style inept form of leadership and government.  But for his comparatively brief tenure, President Trump will show the world what an altruistic leader can accomplish when his paramount desire is to benefit the citizens he governs and not to feather his own nest.  In private life, he earned enough “feathers” and unlike others in government service, he doesn’t need any more.  In fact, he donates his salary to various charities.  Although they do not need the money, I bet Nancy and Chuck do not do the same.

One final thought: I have come to believe that a person’s political persuasion has to be part of their genetic makeup.  That is the only explanation for what I am observing.  I watch talking heads on the Liberal cable channels out of the United States make statements that seem incredibly stupid to me; however, these folks are not stupid people.  It is clear that they believe every word they say, yet I perceive their words to be complete drivel.  They, on the other hand, find my point of view to be equally absurd.  It seems that the United States is comprised of an equal number of people who are either liberal or conservative in their political affiliation.  Between 10 and 15 percent of the population seem genetically neutral in their political observations and, as noted above, it will be this group that determines who the next president of the United States will be.  You know who I am cheering for.
